The AlterG Treadmill works by creating an airtight seal with shorts that zip into the skirt of the treadmill. The skirt then fills with air to calibrate with the body weight of the user. The design of the shorts provides great support without creating bunching or pulling. After the treadmill is calibrated it is used like a traditional treadmill with speed and incline settings and the additional setting of what percentage of body weight is to be supported. The AlterG can support up to 80% of the user’s body weight.
A video camera inside the treadmill and force plates under the belt can measure the following: foot strike patterns, weight distribution between right and left leg, stride length/stance time, and cadence. A workout summary is available at the end of the workout with this data along with workout time, distance, and what percentage of body weight was supported. |
